Lector:

Lectors, sometimes called Readers, proclaim scripture during the liturgical celebrations. Nourished by that scripture's proclamation, both the lector and community are enhanced if the lector makes a regular practice of prayer and meditation on the pages of scripture. Lectors are also responsible for the opening introduction, Prayers of the Faithful, and closing announcements. Some training is provided. Please contact John Miller at 920-336-3063 or email him at office@stfrancisdepere.org for more information or to volunteer.

Hospitality (Ushers):

The purpose of the Hospitality Ministry is two-fold. An Usher is a welcoming face as people come to church. People who love to extend their hands in a warm handshake, smile graciously and welcome neighbor and stranger alike with a few warm words of welcome are drawn to this ministry. They are people who love this church and do what they can so that others will love their time here as well. The general responsibilities of an Usher include making sure that all people find a place to sit if possible, making sure the collection baskets are passed during Mass and brought up to the Altar during the Offertory, seeing that all who are unable to walk up for communion are brought communion by the priest or Eucharistic Ministers, and after Mass they hand out the church bulletins and lock the doors. If anyone has a medical problem during the service, usually an Usher is the one to call 911 or see that the person is helped. This ministry requires people who are dedicated to their responsibilities and come early so they are ready when the people start arriving. If you would like more information or to volunteer, please call the parish office at 920-336-1813 or email at office@stfrancisdepere.org

Altar Server:

The ministry of Altar Server is open to students in the 5th grade or higher. A person in this ministry has the desire to help the priest at Mass by holding the red book, bringing the appropriate items to the Altar at the right times, such as the water and towel, the cups and plates for communion, helping the priest receive the gifts at Offertory time and clearing the Altar at communion time. They process in and out of Mass with the priest. Sometimes they light the candles before Mass and extinguish them after Mass. Servers need to arrive early for Mass so they can be vested in a white alb and proper color cincture (rope) and make sure the hosts and wine are on the gift table before Mass. Training is required. Please contact the parish office at 920-336-1813- or email us at office@stfrancisdepere.org if you would like more information about this ministry or would like to volunteer.

Bereavement Ministry

Walking together on the journey of grief following the death of a loved one is important to the physical and spiritual well being of our parish community. It is our hope that we could begin the journey prior to death, however, this is not always possible, especially when death is sudden and unexpected. Know that you and your family will be prayed and cared for with loving respect and dignity. Working together with the funeral director, our pastoral care team will guide you through the process. Options include a Vigil Prayer Service, Funeral Liturgy, Committal Service at the Cemetery, and a funeral dinner at the parish.

On the first Sunday in November, we plan a special Mass to remember all who have died from our parish during the prior year. Names of the deceased are read and members of that family may come up near the altar and light a memorial candle in honor of their loved one.
